A memory about my cultural background as a descendant of Nyonya/Peranakans, early Chinese migrants who settled mostly in Penang, Malacca, Singapore and Medan. While mine was from Penang, the sister city of Adelaide. The characteristic of the English ceramic tiles were a strong feature in the Peranakan heritage shophouses, as well as the beautiful handmade beaded slippers, floral motifs batik bowl sets used for special occasions or for ancestral offerings etc. The Peranakans have some of the most fascinating hybrid identities- an eclectic fusion of Chinese, Malay & Western culture.
A wonderful fundraising event organised by 澳中文化发展促进会(ACCPA)Australia China Cultural Development Association in conjunction of the Giant Panda 旺旺Wang Wang’s 15th birthday & 福妮Funi’s 14th birthday Party. Honoured to be invited. All profits from the Art Sales will be donated to the Adelaide Zoo.
